Inclusivity is the Hallmark of Scarlett Johansson’s New Beauty Line

outset

Marvel’s Black Widow is just the latest celeb to introduce her plant-based beauty line, and it promises beauty for all.

Actress Scarlett Johansson recently launched The Outset, a five-product beauty line that is vegan, fragrance-free, and cruelty-free. The current lineup features a cleanser, preparatory serum, moisturizer, eye cream, and night cream, essentially everything one needs for a personal beauty regimen.

According to Johansson, her brand represents a new beginning at a time when everyone has been forced to step back, start over, and press their personal reset buttons. The Outset results from several years of research and development, and its founder is excited to share the products with the world.

The Outset was developed in partnership with beauty entrepreneur Kate Foster Lengyel over five years. Johansson learned about key concepts like product development, skin-safe formulation, and brand identity to cement her foothold in the industry.

A healthier approach to beauty

In the process of developing The Outset’s core products, more than 2,700 ingredients deemed harmful to both human health and the environment were excluded from formulation. These were replaced by cleaner natural ingredients which were more sustainable, gluten-free, and hypoallergenic.

The primary ingredient is The Onset’s trademark formula Hyaluroset Complex, a botanical compound with the same moisturizing and collagen-activating properties as the more commonly-used hyaluronic acid. Hyaluroset Complex is used in all of the brand’s products.

It’s also worth noting that the line’s core products – cleanser, serum, and moisturizer – are all refillable, thus lessening customers’ carbon footprints.

Going back to basics

It’s ironic, but Johansson created The Outset following her experiences as the face of a number of luxury cosmetic and skincare brands over the years.

While those experiences were wonderful for her, the actress could not help but feel that she was little more than a character in a campaign, and was thus inspired to develop her own back-to-basics skincare brand. Likewise, she wanted to create a line of products in response to what many people have clamored bigger brands for: a return to a simpler, more manageable, yet equally effective skincare routine.

Indeed, The Outset was created to serve as a beauty routine that was so simple that anyone, regardless of age, race, and gender, could do it and benefit from it. All one needs to do is cleanse, prepare, and moisturize at the start and end of the day.
