Tungsten Prices Soar 900% As China Tightens Exports1

Pentagon Races To Replenish Munitions Stockpiles

KAZR 15

Why one strategic tungsten project has garnered up to $1.6 billion in U.S. development financing support – and growing attention from Washington, defense contractors, and industrial buyers worldwide.2

“…the tungsten there might be worth as much as $80 billion.”3
new york times

Key highlights:

  • Skyline Builders Group (NASDAQ: KAZR) has entered into a business combination with Cove Kaz Capital to advance one of the world’s largest undeveloped tungsten resources.
  • The new global powerhouse has planned output equivalent to ~15% of current global tungsten production.4
  • Leading the effort is the team behind USA Rare Earth’s rise from an early-stage venture to a multibillion-dollar valuation.5

Only a handful of years ago, few investors had heard of Almonty Industries. While the company controlled a premier tungsten project, the market had yet to understand its value.

Then a fragile supply chain reached its tipping point. The tungsten producer’s shares climbed from less than $1 to more than $24 as defense contractors scrambled to secure supply.6

KAZR 7

Today, Almonty Industries commands a market capitalization of approximately $5 billion.7

The catalyst? China’s tightening grip on the global tungsten market.

Today, those same forces have only intensified.

Continued Chinese export restrictions. Two active warfronts. An additional $80 billion committed in Iran. A global race to secure the resources needed for modern defense.8

Tungsten is no longer an overlooked industrial metal. Almost overnight, it has become one of the world’s most strategically important critical minerals.

Against this backdrop, investors are beginning to search for the next major tungsten story. One of the largest is now taking shape in Kazakhstan.

At the center of the story is the Severniy Katpar Project in Kazakhstan, one of the world’s largest undeveloped tungsten deposits.

Severniy Katpar at production could rival the scale of Almonty’s flagship Sangdong Mine and help secure a generational supply of tungsten for the United States of America.

Unlike many early-stage mining companies, the project has already attracted interest from multiple U.S. government agencies.

  • The Export-Import Bank of the United States issued a Letter of Interest for up to $900 million in project financing.9
  • The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation issued a second Letter of Interest for up to $700 million.9

Combined, the two agencies have expressed interest in providing up to $1.6 billion in indicative financing support to help advance development of the project.

  • The U.S. Department of Commerce has also designated the project under its Strategic Transactions Advocacy Trial (STAT) program, an initiative reserved for the select few considered vital to U.S. interests.10
  • And the U.S. International Trade Administration signed a Letter of Intent to prioritize U.S. government and American commercial offtake from the project.11

Why would multiple U.S. agencies devote this level of attention to one tungsten project?

The answer lies in a supply chain Beijing spent decades gaining dominance over.

A Supply Chain Reaches Its Tipping Point

KAZR 6

Tungsten is not a headline commodity like oil, copper, or gold. Inside the defense supply chain, however, it is one of the hardest metals to replace.

Its extreme density, hardness, and melting point make it essential in munitions where performance is critical.

There’s just one problem. The United States has not produced tungsten domestically since 2015 and depends entirely on imports. The U.S. holds only a minimal commercial domestic tungsten stockpile. And there is no major domestic tungsten project close to entering production.12

Meanwhile, China accounts for approximately 83% of global tungsten production and dominates key parts of the processing chain.13

Then last year Beijing tightened a supply chain that was already stretched to its limit.

China imposed export controls on tungsten products. Shipments fell roughly 70%. Western buyers scrambled. Prices exploded.14

By December, Beijing had tightened the screws even further. For the next two years, only 15 firms have been authorized to export tungsten, giving the government direct control over volume, timing, and destination.15

By late April 2026, APT prices reached $3,185 per MTU, up approximately 900% over the prior 12 months.16

Defense contractors and manufacturers are now racing to secure alternative sources before shortages become more severe and costs spike even higher.

The Clock Is Ticking On America’s Tungsten Supply

KAZR 14

New Pentagon procurement rules take effect January 1, 2027, raising the stakes in the race for secure supply. KAZR is positioned to help meet that demand.

Less than 120 days remain for the Pentagon to close the gap. And the consequences reach some of America’s most important defense systems.

  • STRIKE DRONES launching precision guided missiles.
  • TUNGSTEN WARHEADS engineered for maximum penetration.
  • MILITARY AIRCRAFT powered by high-performance turbine components.
  • SPACECRAFT AND SATELLITES to withstand the vacuum of space.

Behind them sits a metal the Pentagon has called essential to national security. Tungsten. And right now, conflicts across multiple fronts are forcing the United States and its allies to burn through munitions stockpiles accumulated over years.17

As those inventories are depleted, defense contractors face the enormous task of replacing them. Project Blue estimates military demand for tungsten will rise approximately 12% in 2026 alone.18

That would be challenging under normal circumstances. But now another deadline is approaching. Under the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), tungsten is already treated as a sensitive “covered material”. Current rules restrict the Pentagon from acquiring certain tungsten materials produced in adversarial nations.19

But beginning January 1, 2027, new restrictions will reach further upstream, limiting the use of tungsten ore sourced from China, Russia, Iran and North Korea.19

Defense contractors now face growing pressure to secure alternative supplies from the few large-scale tungsten sources outside China’s control.

Rebuilding a supply chain China spent decades dominating will take more than domestic production alone. Washington also needs reliable international partners, and few are as strategically positioned as Kazakhstan.

How Kaz Resources’ Tungsten Project Became Part of a U.S. National Security Agenda

KAZR 4

Situated between China and Russia, Kazakhstan has rapidly strengthened its strategic partnership with the United States – with critical minerals at the the center of the relationship.

In November 2025, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with U.S. officials as the two countries expanded cooperation on critical minerals and supply-chain security.20

The meeting resulted in a Critical Minerals Memorandum of Understanding designed to deepen collaboration on strategic resource development. Among the projects specifically referenced in that agreement was Severniy Katpar.20

Now controlled by Kaz Resources Group through its joint venture with Kazakhstan’s state mining company, Severniy Katpar represents one of the world’s largest undeveloped tungsten resources.

Here is what the market is not taking into account. Kaz Resources Group and Skyline Builders Group Holding Limited (“Skyline” or “KAZR”) (NASDAQ: KAZR) announced the companies entered into a Transaction Agreement to effect a business combination.21

Upon completion of the business combination, the combined company plans to operate under the name “Kaz Resources Inc.” and trade on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol “KAZR“.

A Clear Path To Production

KAZR 3

Defense and industrial buyers are already competing for future supply, with indicated interest exceeding planned production capacity.

In Kazakhstan’s historic Karaganda mining district sits Severniy Katpar, one of the largest known undeveloped tungsten resources on Earth. Kaz Resources Group controls the project through a 70% interest in Severniy Katpar LLP, a joint venture with Kazakhstan’s state mining company, Tau-Ken Samruk.22

Severniy Katpar contains approximately 1.4 million tonnes of tungsten trioxide. To put that in perspective, the company estimates the resource is equal to roughly 60% of China’s current known reserve base.23

Located less than 20 miles apart, the Northern Katpar and Upper Kairakty deposits bookend a district-scale asset with a projected mine life of more than 50 years. Management expects annual output of approximately 12,000 metric tonnes of tungsten concentrate.22

That’s roughly 15% of current global production from a single project.4

And because the deposits are near surface, Severniy Katpar could become one of the lowest-cost tungsten producers as well. That combination of scale, longevity, and economics helps explain why the project is attracting attention from governments and contractors alike.24

The project already benefits from government support, a clear pathway to development, and as much as $1.6 billion in indicative federal financing against estimated construction costs of approximately $1.1 billion.9

Site preparation began in July 2026—the first major on-site activity since the Soviet era. The work includes surveys, access roads, and drill pads, with core drilling set for August ahead of the Definitive Feasibility Study.25

Construction is targeted to begin in 2028 following a Final Investment Decision, with first tungsten production anticipated in 2030 and first APT in 2031. But even before production has begun, buyers are showing interest.26

Interest in future output already exceeds planned production, driven by demand from manufacturers, defense contractors, aerospace companies, nuclear buyers, and energy producers, including several Fortune 500 companies.27

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • ~1.4 million tonnes of contained tungsten trioxide
  • annual production of 12,000 metric tonnes
  • Planned output: ~15% of world production
  • 50+ year mine life
  • Anticipated cash costs of ~$100 per MTU24

The Critical Mineral Rally Nobody Is Talking About

Gold, copper, and rare earths have dominated the headlines. But one strategic metal has quietly outperformed them all.

KAZR 2

Gold has surged to record highs. Copper has become a defining trade behind AI. Rare earths have dominated the conversation around critical minerals. Yet tungsten has quietly delivered one of the strongest rallies of all.

According to the International Energy Agency, tungsten prices surged roughly sixfold between January 2025 and April 2026, while other industry benchmarks recorded gains approaching 900% over a recent 12-month period.28

Unlike many critical minerals, tungsten remains largely overlooked by investors. That disconnect may not last. The International Energy Agency now identifies tungsten among the critical minerals most exposed to supply-chain risk.29

Strained supply is only half the story. Demand is accelerating from multiple directions – including defense, artificial intelligence and a rapidly expanding commercial space economy.

A rapidly expanding commercial space economy has brought renewed attention to the enormous amounts of capital flowing into rockets, satellites, orbital infrastructure and advanced propulsion systems. And tungsten is uniquely suited to the extreme conditions of space.

Its extraordinary melting point, density and resistance to heat and wear make tungsten valuable in high-temperature propulsion systems, thermal and radiation shielding, specialized spacecraft components and the precision tooling required to manufacture them.

NASA has identified tungsten-based materials for applications ranging from spacecraft thrusters and solar-probe shielding to next-generation nuclear thermal propulsion.30

As launch activity increases and companies build more satellites, propulsion systems and orbital infrastructure, demand for materials capable of surviving the harshest environments is likely to grow with it.

Then there is artificial intelligence. Modern AI chips run hotter, faster and harder than any processors before them. One of the materials helping make that possible is tungsten.

During semiconductor production, manufacturers use tungsten hexafluoride to deposit ultra-thin tungsten films.

These films form microscopic contacts and interconnects linking billions of transistors inside advanced processors.

AI is also driving one of the largest semiconductor manufacturing expansions in history. Every new fabrication plant requires precision machining, cutting tools and wear-resistant equipment.

All applications where tungsten plays a critical role. Tungsten is helping power AI at both ends of the supply chain, from the chips themselves to the factories that build them. And unlike copper or lithium, tungsten is a comparatively small market.

Even modest increases in demand can have an outsized impact on pricing.

A strategically important metal. A relatively small global market. And multiple long-term demand drivers arriving at the same time.

It’s a combination that has quietly made tungsten one of the best-performing critical minerals in the world.

Led By The Team Behind A Landmark Critical Minerals Success Story

KAZR 13

Leadership with experience spanning critical minerals development, government relations, mine construction, and global tungsten markets.

KAZR 9

The mining industry is filled with large deposits that never reach their potential. That’s why experienced leadership with a proven record of execution is key. Kaz Resources’ Executive Chairman Pini Althaus is the founder and former CEO of USA Rare Earth, which he grew from a $7 million market capitalization to a $1 billion valuation.31

USA Rare Earth established one of the first mine-to-magnet rare earth supply chains in the United States – a project in line with the same national security and critical minerals priorities now driving interest in tungsten.32

KAZR 12

He’s joined by Chief Financial Officer Douglas Newby, who previously served as CFO of USA Rare Earth. Across a mining career spanning more than four decades, Newby has helped evaluate, finance, and develop major resource projects around the world.3

KAZR 10

Government relations and strategic engagement are led by Ashley P. Beaty, Head of Global Engagement. Beaty previously advised USA Rare Earth and brings extensive experience across the mining, energy, and advanced technology sectors.31

KAZR 11

The team also benefits from deep tungsten expertise. CEO Dominic Heaton previously led development of the Nui Phao Project in Vietnam, the largest tungsten mine and refinery operation outside China, from construction through commercial production.33

The approach for KAZR follows a familiar blueprint. Develop a strategically important mineral asset, secure government support, attract long-term customers, and build a supply chain capable of serving Western markets.

Seven Reasons to Watch Skyline Builders Group (NASDAQ: KAZR)

  1. Backed by Washington

The Severniy Katpar project was specifically referenced in a Critical Minerals Memorandum of Understanding signed in November 2025. The project has also received support from multiple U.S. government agencies, including up to $1.6 billion in indicative financing interest from EXIM and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation.
  2. World’s Largest Undeveloped Tungsten Resource

Severniy Katpar contains approximately 1.4 million tonnes of tungsten trioxide, one of the largest known undeveloped tungsten resources globally. The project’s Northern Katpar and Upper Kairakty deposits support a projected mine life exceeding 50 years.
  3. Tungsten Prices Have Soared 900%

As China tightens export controls and governments race to secure new supply, benchmark tungsten prices have surged over the past year, reaching record highs.
  4. A Potential Source of 15% of Global Supply

Management expects annual production of approximately 12,000 metric tonnes of tungsten concentrate—equivalent to roughly 15% of current world production from a single project.
  5. Demand Already Exceeds Planned Output

According to the company, aerospace, industrial, defense, nuclear, and energy buyers have expressed indicated offtake interest exceeding planned production capacity.
  6. Leaders Who Have Done It Before

Executive Chairman Pini Althaus founded USA Rare Earth and grew it from a $7 million market capitalization to a $1 billion valuation. CEO Dominic Heaton previously led development of the Nui Phao Project, the largest tungsten mine and refinery operation outside China.
  7. A Strategic Alternative to China

China controls much of the world’s tungsten supply. As governments and manufacturers search for secure, non-Chinese sources of this critical mineral, Severniy Katpar has emerged as one of the few projects capable of delivering meaningful scale.

After A 900% Run, What’s Next For Tungsten Investors?

Gold, copper, and rare earths have dominated the critical-minerals conversation. Tungsten has moved more quietly, even as supply restrictions, defense demand, semiconductor expansion, and the commercial space economy have increased its strategic importance.

Kaz Resources Group and Skyline Builders Group (NASDAQ: KAZR) are positioning Severniy Katpar at the center of that shift. The project combines unusual scale, a proposed multi-decade mine life, indicative U.S. financing support, stated customer interest, and a leadership team with relevant critical-minerals and tungsten experience.

Important work remains. The business combination must be completed, the project must advance through feasibility, financing, approvals, construction, and commissioning, and commercial outcomes may differ materially from current plans.26

But as the January 2027 procurement deadline approaches and Western buyers search for secure tungsten supply, the project may be worth a closer look.
